9 Year Old Twins Make National Stand Against Epilepsy

Did you inspire a national movement when you were 9? Hailey and Livy are.

Hailey and Livy are bringing people together from across the country to Make A Stand Against Epilepsy. Lemonade will be served from coast to coast July 25 - 27 during Lemonade for Livy to raise awareness and funding for epilepsy research.

Lemonade for Livy was inspired by nine year old Olivia (Livy) Scheinman who has had severe epilepsy since birth. Although she cannot walk or talk, she has incited a movement of children and families coming together from around the country to raise money for epilepsy research. Livy's twin sister Hailey leads the movement from Clearwater, FL. She motivates people, through her Facebook videos (Facebook.com/LivysHope), to get involved and register their lemonade events. Each participating state on her Map of Hope is turned purple, the color for epilepsy awareness. Hailey's goal is to turn each state purple.

The Lemonade for Livy Map of Hope is updated every time a new state or stand registers. All 50 states are now participating.

Nothing is stronger than the bond between sisters, especially twins. The love between Hailey and Livy exemplifies putting someone else's needs before one's own. Hailey explains, "I will do anything to help Livy and I think everything is possible if you believe in it. We need a cure so my sister and everyone else with epilepsy can live in peace."

Hailey asks, "What will the story of your life be?" and encourages everyone to Make A Stand in life. It's not what happens in the end. It's what happens along the way that matters.

Hailey comments, "I have seen Livy have seizures my whole life. They can cause her body to shake and sometimes she holds her breath. Livy has had two brain surgeries to try and stop them. She has also been on many medications. Even after all that, she still has epilepsy. At one point she was having more than 100 seizures a day. I remember one day when Livy was having a seizure and she was laying on the couch. I rubbed her head until she fell asleep. I was with her all the way through that seizure. I am very proud of Livy because she has overcome so much in her life and she continues to smile and inspire other people.

There are 65 million people in the world who have epilepsy. I want a cure so my sister doesn't have to suffer from this terrible disorder the rest of her life. That is why we are doing Lemonade for Livy. All of the money raised from lemonade stands goes to the Epilepsy Foundation of America to help find a cure. We are trying to get the whole country involved. Our goal is to get at least one lemonade stand in every state from July 25 – 27. Thank you so much for your help. We really need to reach our goal!"

Hailey explains, "I will do anything to help Livy and I think everything is possible if you believe in it."

Hailey's dream is to someday stop Livy's "shakies." But she knows it will be a long road. Regardless of how long it takes, Hailey will be there to make a stand for her sister every step of the way.

All of the money raised during Lemonade for Livy benefits the Epilepsy Foundation (www.epilepsy.com) and their mission to find a cure. For more information about Lemonade for Livy or to register a stand or party, please visit www.livyshope.com/lemonadeforlivy.
