The Only Fishtail Braid Tutorial You'll Ever Need

An easy fishtail braid in just five minutes.

Here's how your braid will look when finished:

I love fishtail braids. Mostly because it’s stupid how simple they are while still adding a little something extra to any look. Seriously, this won’t take you more than 5 minutes to complete.

STEP 1: Prep

Part your hair as you prefer. Pull your hair to one side.

STEP 2: Section Off Hair

At the nape of your neck, separate your hair into two sections.

STEP 3: Begin To Braid

Take a small strand of hair from one section and pull it over to section 2. Then take a small strand from section 2 and pull the strand over to section 1 and gently pull tight.

**NOTE: It won’t look exactly like a fishtail braid at first. DO NOT freak out. Simply keep repeating the step. Eventually you will get the fishtail look.**

Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the way your braid looks.

STEP 4: Finishing Touches

Secure with a small, clear elastic hair band. Add a touch of hairspray to tame fly aways.

**EXTRA TIP: If you want a messier look, gently pull strands of the braid outwards (without pulling them out of your braid). You can also pull out wispy strands of hair around your face to make a more bohemian, carefree look. **
