Midnight Sun is the fifth book in the Twilight saga. The story focuses on the events of Twilight from the perspective of Edward, the lead vampire in the blockbuster film and novels. Although scheduled for release next in the series, the premature leak of the first 12 chapters online caused author Stephanie Meyer to shelve it for at least two years. Meyer did not name names as to who leaked the partial manuscript, but it's known that actor Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward, and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke have read it. On Midnight Sun , Meyer comments, "I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes."
