Will You Regret It?

It is NO fun to have a job where you're mistreated, over-stressed, or you want to cry everyday. But there's something about living through a horrible job when you're young sets a groundwork for your entire career moving forward. You then have an example of what you can and can't tolerate in a job, and anything else HAS to be an improvement. You'll never want to take back the experience of that first shitty job.

When you're older, will you regret having had a job where you were miserable?

While you may feel pressure to just keep working and moving up the ranks in your twenties, it's actually a prime time for you to take a break. With enough saving and planning, it's literally the only time in your life you can pick up and go where the wind takes you — assuming you don't have a family yet — you're your only responsibility. Your career will be waiting for you when you get back.

When you're older, will you regret quitting your job to move abroad for a year?

When you look back at your twenties, you'll probably feel like you could have done without about one-third of the partying you did. So, stay home from time to time. Fuck FOMO.

When you're older, will you regret going to every single party and social invitation?

You might regret the RELATIONSHIP itself, but you won't regret the hurt it put you through. Having your heart broken when you're young doesn't hurt more or less than when you're old, but you at least know the value of rebuilding.

When you're older, will you regret having let your heart been broken?

Nope. You may not be proud of causing someone pain, but you won't regret having made a right decision. If you hadn't broken their heart, where would you be now? Sad, probably.

When you're older, will you regret ending a relationship, even if it's a long term one?

You might nearly lose your mind moving back in with your parents, but you won't regret it. In retrospect, you'll see it as the only way you could have gotten to where you are now. (Now=you, in the future.)

When you're older, will you regret moving back in with your parents?

You will feel that you wasted time. You will also feel like you went on those dates because you couldn't do any better, or you were afraid of rejection. But in the end, you may regret having slept with them (when it was clearly going nowhere) and having to end it awkwardly.

When you're older, will you regret going on second, third, or even multiple dates with someone you're not really into?

The holidays are one big cluster. You might feel really, really guilty about not going home, but if you're celebrating with friends or other loved ones, there's no reason you can't make your own plans, so long as you carve out family time at a different date. It may even make you feel more grown up and responsible to say NO to Christmas.

When you're older, will you regret NOT going home every year for the holidays?

You will never regret spending money on a trip that brings you an amazing new experience. When you look back, you won't remember the $$$ so much as you remember all the great things that happened. See as much as you can while you're young.

When you're older, will you regret spending money on travel?

One day, you will find yourself with a closet full of Forever 21 and H&M CRAP that you will wonder where the hell did all of this come from and HOW did I afford it all, exactly? (You can't afford it.) By the time you're older, you'll have gotten rid of it all. Just think your purchases through. Be careful with trends. You'll be fine.

When you're older, will you regret buying clothes with money you don't really have? (As in, will you regret "treating yo self.")

If you fall out of touch, it's for a reason. And newsflash: Friendships are reciprocal. If you've lost touch with friends, it's as much their fault as yours. It's never too late to reach out to say "hey," either.

When you're older, will you regret NOT keeping in touch with high school and college friends?

No, BUT! THERE IS A BIG BUT. Because this country is whack, having a credit card early helps you establish good credit. And if you don't have one by a certain age, then it'll be REALLY hard for you to get one later (and you may have a tough time getting things like mortgages, too). If you keep up with your payments and keep a good credit score, then you will NOT regret having a credit card. JUST BE SO FUCKING CAREFUL.
