George Will reiterated his snide and sarcastic observation that then-candidate Senator Obama used ATMs as an example of automation being responsible for increased unemployment. ATMs are part of the CONTINUUM of automation; they reduced the need for employees at retail banks. A few months ago, either the “PBS Newshour” or Bill Moyers’ show on PBS showed a brand-new factory that actually made stuff. It had a small parking lot, because it was so automated that they only needed a couple of hundred workers, not thousands as in years past. That’s the OTHER end of the CONTINUUM!

I’m surprised that it shows Donohue with an opposable thumb.
