I had my first panic attack my senior year of high school and, like most people, thought I was having a heart attack. Mine usually start out with me getting really hot then it’s very hard to breathe. That is followed by my hands and feet prickling and then my heart feels like it could beat out of my chest. I would have welcomed fainting with open arms at this point. I finally got some help dealing with the depression and withdrawal that these caused two years later. This led to poor grades in college, avoiding many social events, and general fear that these attacks could happen at any moment. I envied the people who didn’t have to deal with this and hated the people who would say “just calm down.” When I finally got some help and medication it helped tremendously. Nobody should have to suffer and definitely not alone.
