Here's What Kelly Bishop Said About Filming "Gilmore Girls" Without Edward Herrmann

"Ed’s probably going to be hovering around the set a bit and watching over us. I really do believe that."

The Gilmore Girls revival is officially happening!

Which also means that Emily Gilmore, played by the great Kelly Bishop, is returning into our lives.

In an exclusive interview with TV Line, Bishop spoke about her return to the fictional world of Stars Hollow. "I was 20 pages in [to the table read] and I was like, ‘Ahh… I’m back in Gilmore Land,'" she said. "I’m here. It never went away.'”

She also talked about how filming the show will be different without the late Edward Herrmann, who played the role of her husband, Richard Gilmore.

"It's going to be very hard doing it without him, because he and I were buds on the show. We, obviously, were older [than the rest of the cast]. But we were also New York actors, and we connected very well. We always did our crossword puzzles together in the hair-and-makeup room. That was one of our little routines. There was a comfort level…. [Sighs] It's going to be hard without him."

When the cast reunited back in June at the ATX Television Festival, they left an empty arm chair on stage as a tribute to Herrmann.

The empty arm chair for Ed Hermann is really just so heartbreaking #gilmoregirlsreunion

Bishop said that Emily will be dealing with Richard's death on the Gilmore Girls revival. “Because of the fact that Emily lost her husband, she’s kind of a raw nerve," she explained to TV Line.

"Ed's probably going to be hovering around the set a bit and watching over us," Bishop said. "I really do believe that. Because he really loved the show.
