25 Things You Realize When You're Almost 25

Bring on the quarter-life crisis.

1. If you want to get what you want, you have to learn to ask for it.

2. You should embrace your quirks and weird obsessions instead of trying to shy away from them.

3. As much as you’ll want to help your friends out of bad situations, sometimes they have to come to terms with reality and figure it out on their own time.

4. Family is everything, however you define it and whatever family means to you.

5. At some point, your friends also become your family.

6. There’s something to be said for spontaneity and living in the moment, so long as it doesn’t lead to something permanently harmful.

7. Having enough money to pay your bills and live your life is important, but money isn’t going to bring you happiness on its own.

8. Trust your gut and follow your initial instinct, because your gut feeling is usually on point.

9. Hard work usually does pay off, but it’s also super beneficial to be at the right place at the right time.

10. You’re entitled to having guilty pleasures — don’t let anyone tell you any different.

11. Grand gestures can be overrated. It’s actually the little, perfect moments that are some of the best ones you'll always remember.

12. You have to be willing to try new things and give them a chance.

13. Friendship requires effort — you won’t just magically stay friends with people if you don’t put in time, energy, and love.

14. There’s a difference between loneliness and being alone. Spending time by yourself is actually pretty great.

15. The mourning and grieving process is exactly that: a *process*. It’s never-ending, but it does get easier.

16. You don't owe anyone anything (except maybe your mom for giving you life and all that good stuff).

17. Despite how scary they can seem, change and transitions aren't always bad things. Sometimes they’re even necessary.

18. Dating is hard, and you’ll most likely date a million garbage people for every decent person, but those rare decent people make it all worth it.

19. Looking for a job can feel like a job in itself, but don’t give up on the idea of professional happiness.

20. Learning the truth can be disappointing and shitty, but that doesn’t make it any less important or necessary.

21. Pick your battles. You don't have to fight with everyone who disagrees with you.

22. Step outside of your comfort zone and put yourself out there as much as possible.

23. Don't ever be content and complacent, because life has way more to offer than that.

24. And most importantly, you learn that every day counts. Every single day.
