RANT WARNING: A Heartfelt Letter To A Majority Of The Population

Don't lie to yourself - life is getting a little ridiculous.

    Dear Society,

Let me begin by apologizing for the fact that I'm two glasses of wine deep and some of my verbiage may come across as aggressive, but the following rant should be absorbed from a comedic perspective - with a slight dose of reality.

So, let's get this started, human population! First, and foremost, let me start by asking: What... is going on?

Not to judge you, but things are getting a little ridiculous and it is all a result of us - the "peeps." I had a conversation with my dad a few months ago that revolved around there needing to be a "thinning of the herd" - now don't freak out, he's not a diabolical scientist, but a turnaround consultant. Don't know what a turnaround consultant is? Well, neither do I, exactly, but I know it's not violent - and I had always joked about it, but I'm starting to reconsider.

I'm never pro-death, but I am 100 percent pro-smacking some sense into an idiot. I'm not too sure where you went wrong society, but have you seen the news? You're making it depressing.

I don't even know where to begin, but then again who am I to judge you? Well, don't think that I'm some stay at home mom that has nothing better to do with their life, because I'm a 22 year old content writer that spends all day cruising the headlines - so, I know a thing or two-ish.

Well, let's begin with all the violence,

Over the past few weeks, I have seen the most obscene headlines, which are not at the fault of the news source, but rather the people CAUSING THE ISSUE.

Let's discuss this new "Knockout Game," this is not a game - nor has it ever been a game - you want to know what a real game is? Kickball, baseball, football, basketball - Oh, what's that? Those are "sports," you say? Then play some scrabble or hide n' go seek… the possibilities are endless and none of them involve running up behind someone and hitting them in the head so hard they lose consciousness.

I actually heard a quote of a kid who participates in the "knockout game," and he ACTUALLY said (with his face blurred), "It's just a fun game for the kids to go around hitting people, even though they shouldn't be doing that, it's still fun."

WHAT? HOW? How is that fun?

What happened to resolving our own issues without reflecting them upon others? Take a kick boxing class if you're pissed off or get really into a reality TV show and just yell the screen in frustration.

I mean, things are getting a little ridiculous in the world today. Being the age that I am, I have slowly been starting to realize the world of adulthood - and I'm not a fan. It has nothing to do with bills or taxes, but rather the arrogance of about 95 percent of the population. Yes, okay - maybe I'm just an adolescent adult that is facing the reality of life, but I'm almost certain that life was not always like this.

When I was a kid want to know what I did? I ran around outside, I rode my bike around the neighborhood, I played kickball in the yard... I didn't run around punching people in the side of the head.

I'm pretty sure that if I had a child today, I wouldn't even let them ride their bike to their friends house only a block over in fear of them being kidnapped.

I'm pretty sure that if I had a child today, I would home school them so they don't get bullied or become the victim of a school shooting - because those are becoming too frequent.

I'm pretty sure that if I had a child today, they would never bully another child or person throughout their entire life.

I'm pretty sure that if I had a child today, I wouldn't let them out of the house after dark in fear that they'll be shot just from asking another person for some directions or help with their car.

Literally, the list is endless. It's like the reality of life is actually steering people away from procreating which is the whole purpose OF LIFE. Then again, what do I know? The media lies right? Well, no fire ignites without the influence of another substance - unless you believe in spontaneous human combustion - so, every media story, regardless of how depressing, has some truth behind it, unless they're The National Enquirer or a few other select publications.

I guess, well, I guess this is all just me expressing how we need to step back and maybe return back to the 1990's… if that was a real time (was it a mirage?). Literally, the 90's were the greatest time to grow up - fashion included (all the plaid and denim anyone could ever want!).

We didn't have all these insane technological advances, no kids had iPhones (I had a Nokia and I'm pretty sure all I did on it was play Snake), and no kids used an app to learn the ABC's. No, we used chalk boards and overhead projectors!

Don't know what an overhead projector is? Exactly - getting a whiteboard in one of your classrooms was actually a big deal.

We had seriously deranged cartoons like Rocko's Modern Life, Ren & Stimpy, The Angry Beavers, anyone? But look at us, we're all fine for the most part. Kids today have Call Of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. I'm sorry, but no teenager needs to see a hooker having sex on the hood of a car in a parallel parking spot - actually no one in general needs to see that. That's something that a majority of people don't even want to believe happens.

I'm honestly speechless and to be honest society, things don't seem to be looking up.

The amount of violence taking place is out of control, the lack of knowledge in terms of voicing one's opinion is out of control, and the children running this country are out of control (Senate, Congress, the house of Republicans etc) and I just can't deal with it anymore. Someone really needs to just smack you upside the head and bring you back to the reality of the situation that is called life.

    Sincerely,

Me - a member of society
