    United Airlines Slashed Carseat Straps

This family's carseat was ruined during a cross country flight and then told to drive 40 miles away to get a new one.

Today, a young family was flying from Denver to Aspen and gate checked their 6 month old daughter's car seat. Upon landing, they found the straps of the seat were slashed. When they spoke to United's customer service agent, they were told "tough luck." They then asked where they could purchase another car seat and were directed to a Walmart 40 miles away.

    Here is their story:

    Dear United,

Here is a picture of our 6 month old infant. As you can see she is delightful and amazing and we only want for her to be safe. And here is a picture of her car seat. You'll notice that the straps have been cut. That occurred on your flight 4893 from Denver to Aspen today March 14, 2015. We gate checked our car seat which we thought would be safer. Silly us. Someone on your crew deemed it an appropriate action to literally slice the safety harness straps and say NOTHING about it. When we went to leave the airport we discovered we had no safe way to transport our infant. When speaking the the customer service agent at baggage claim the response was essentially "well tough luck." When my husband asked where he could get a new car seat, they suggested the Wal-Mart 40 miles away.

How do you suggest we get our infant from point a to point b without jeopardizing her well being???? Luckily I was not traveling alone with the baby and therefore we were able to split up while scrambling to find a shuttle that could bring us a car seat.

The action of cutting the straps is unfathomable, but the callous response was worse. Never mind we are now out $200 to replace the car seat, the idea that we could have been stranded or risk our darling daughter's safety is infuriating. Go ahead and look at her picture again....cute, right?? Now imagine your child when they were that age - how would you have felt?
