3-Year-Old With Autism Creates Monet-Like Paintings

Iris Halmshaw cannot speak yet but has sold her art for hundreds of dollars

Iris Grace Halmshaw is only 3 years old, but she's already causing a buzz in the art world. The British toddler has autism and does not speak yet, but she expresses herself through incredible impressionist paintings that have already sold to collectors for hundreds of dollars.

"When she started doing art therapy we thought it was amazing, but we're her parents so we think everything she does is amazing," her father, Peter-Jon Halmshaw, told the Leicester Mercury. "But lots of other people started saying it was great. It went berserk from there."

Her autism has created a style of painting that her mother, Arabella Carter-Johnson, has never seen in a child her age, according to the family website.

"She has an understanding of colours and how they interact with each other," continued Carter-Johnson. "She beams with excitement and joy when I get out the paints, it lifts her mood every time."

An Internet commenter said of the story: "I'm convinced [people with autism] are in touch with the greater force of creation, home of infinite brilliance and madness. They operate on a plane between this world and the next. The gifts they often possess do not have a logical explanation because they're connected to something more cosmic."
