skuzzmeister 10 months agoSee, now, I’d never seen a Slow Loris before, or even knew that they existed. I actually had to Google them just to make sure someone wasn’t playing an elaborate internet prank on my unsuspecting eyes. I didn’t know they were poisonous, or had their teeth pulled out or filed down until AFTER I watched the video and scrolled down to see the comments. Interestingly enough, as I was watching the video, I kept thinking, “okay, so, where is the part where it launches itself on the cameraman and starts to gnaw it’s face off?” Something about those huge eyes I just don’t trust…

Davine S. 10 months agoHere is a video from within a sanctuary to cheer us all up (i.e. mostly *me*). And this is one that’s a bit more educational. Again: sorry to ruin everyone’s fun, but I’ll throw myself on the buzzkill grenade if it helps people be a bit more aware of this miserable situation. :(

You guys, I was worried about this guy, so I did a little digging. As much as I wish I could un-know this, here’s what I learned: They pull out the teeth of the Slow Loris without anasthesia when they snatch them from the wild - that’s why it’s just eating rice here, because it can’t chew proper food. Then they’re sold as pets (which is illegal: they’re endangered), and kept in cages that are pitifully small. They’re nocturnal animals which is why it looks so dazed with all that artificial light. We shouldn’t pass around videos like this or click “like” on them on YouTube, because it just makes people want to buy them as pets and encourages the existing “owners” to keep posting the videos. It’s better to support legitimate sanctuaries and preservation charities. If you’re lucky enough to visit places like Indonesia, you could enjoy seeing them in the wild. I am so sad now, and I’m really really really sorry to make everyone else sad too, but I LOVE SLOW LORISES SO MUCH. They belong in the wild.

I LAUGHED SO HARD ALL BY MYSELF and then I sighed and swooned. But then I felt crushingly sad, because I would rather see a Slow Loris in the wild (or a rehab facility, temporarily), and I have a feeling this one is being kept as a pet in a cage. That was quite an emotional rollercoaster.
