“The way people buy, consume, and share games is going to change, but thanks to an extremely vocal and vigilant group of advocates, it is going to change a little bit more slowly” I’d take a different approach, and say, “The way people buy, consume, and share games is going to change, but thanks to an extremely vocal and vigilant group of advocates, it is going to change a little bit more SMARTLY”. We all know an all-digital future is inevitable. That we denounce Microsoft’s policies has more to do with their specific scheme than with the general philosophy. You bring Steam into the argument, but don’t recognize that the reason Steam users tolerate DRM and all-digital games, is that the prices are such a massive incentive. Had Microsoft offered such appealing price schemes to go along their always-online, all-digital business, plenty of people would have been eager to adopt it. What Steam does, is it gives you a huge purchase incentive and forces you to go all-digital. What Microsoft was doing, was removing purchase incentive while forcing you to go all-digital.
