sarahs41 4 months agoWhen I was a new mom, I received a card from a WIC Lactation Consultant to give to people who may try to kick you out of stores or public spots bc of breastfeeding that explains the laws etc. It was simple, smart, and clever to use that instead of going to extremes or having to protest. People are simply ignorant, sheltered sheep who don’t know law, and do not like things that make them uncomfortable. Like seeing boobies.

hannahc20 4 months agobreastfeeding is natural and the healthiest option for your baby (no judgement if for some reason you aren’t able to breastfeed ie: adoption, surrogacy, communicable disease, insufficient milk etc). those who are uncomfortable with breastfeeding in public are the twisted ones because they are sexualizing an entirely non-sexual activity.

amjensen410 4 months agoThere are so many viewpoints on this issue that it’s dizzying. I’m of the opinion that typically, stores don’t allow people to walk around with Big Macs in hand, so why should they accommodate babies eating? There are plenty of areas to sit in a mall that would be out of people’s way, not to mention more comfortable than trying to dig through racks of clothing with a baby latched on to you. I understand that babies need to eat, but so does every other human on earth and we find other places to do it than smack dab in the middle of a busy store.

As someone who worked in a shop for 7 years, the problem with breastfeeding in a store is not about being grossed out or depriving anyone’s child of their food. It’s about having someone set up camp in the middle of your store getting in the way. We wouldn’t allow someone to sit down and eat a packed lunch in our store so why would someone think it’s okay to sit for 20 minutes feeding their kid?

beccaj3 4 months agoIt’s society’s fault that this is considered a “problem”. This is how the vast majority of baby mammals eat, so if it bothers you, look away. It’s been like this for millions of years.
People need to stop being offended by this? Are you going to have flashback nightmares from seeing nature? I don’t think so, so get over it, & let the kid eat without your annoying opinions & “morals” being inflicted upon it. -

trumack 4 months agoI’m all for breast feeding, but not everyone wants to walk into a store and see a child hanging off a woman’s breast. I understand that the tiny humans eat. However, being in a public place knowing well enough that not everyone is comfortable watching it, just cover it up. It’s that simple. And as stated before, its different for adults, we don’t eat from breasts anymore, only tiny humans do. To each his own though…

eilertb 4 months agoI really don’t see how feeding a child is bothering people. It seems like they jump on this faux moral bandwagon. A child eating is not the same as urinating or defecating. It is not sexual and therefore not perverse. It is not physically or mentally harming anyone else. If it does cause mental anguish then the person needs to see a therapist because seeing a child eat should not affect you that greatly. Most of the time women’s breasts are covered more than a bikini covers while nursing, even without an actual cover. If you are gawking long enough you might see more. Hopefully though, you don not usually gawk at children or anyone for that matter while they are eating. An infant who’s brain is growing at an alarming rate needs calories more often then an adult so they should be fed on demand to promote optimal brain development. Happy babies= healthy babies and nothing makes a baby
happier than nursing. -

juliawill 4 months agoGood god, this is some bullshit. Wanna know why covering yourself with a scarf or something is not the same as forcing adults to eat their dinner covered with a blanket? Because adults don’t eat out of breasts! Are you really surprised that people are taken aback? Think there’s something wrong with them? Breasts, more often than not, are covered with clothing. Don’t expect no one to think twice when you just whip it out. Whether you like it or not, some people are going to be uncomfortable, and yes, you are going to have to inconvenience yourself for the comfort of those around you. Everyone has to inconvenience themselves for the benefit of others sometimes. Sorry, you are not special because you gave birth.

I’m a mother of two and I wouldn’t be caught dead breast feeding at Hollister. Get your baby on a feeding schedule or buy a breast pump. It’s not cool that this woman got kicked out, but I’m not ok with my ten year old son who shops at places like that..seeing another womans boob. It makes people uncomfortable. I wish that I could take off some time to protest my boobs at Hollister. Get a friggin life. Just go bitch to a manager and try to score a gift card..

patrickm24 4 months agoMaybe this is a younger generation thing. My mother never had qualms about feeding us in the car or going somewhere private to feed us. Also, this whole “you eat in a bathroom and see if you like it” line is truly silly as I do not know of a single baby who gives food reviews. They are babies. They have no clue where they are eating, they just eat. I actually do not care if women breastfeed in public, but the militant lactivists drive me insane. I do not see where this movement is coming from. Parents these days think they have all these sorts of rights and entitlements but these were never issues in the old days.
