Police Brutally Beat Man At Youth Outreach Center
They thought the man sleeping in the synagogue lounge was loitering.
Brooklyn blog crownheights.info reports that last Monday night, a 911 caller told police a man was sleeping in the lounge of a local synagogue and outreach center.
When they arrived, the man apparently resisted arrest. As seen in the video above, he was repeatedly punched and pepper-sprayed before finally being arrested. (He was later released on bail.)
A source told crownheights.info the man had permission to live at the center.

gcs3 7 months agoWhat I saw was the individual pulled his hand away while being arrested, then put his fists up to start a boxing match. On the couch, he was kicking the officers (or trying to kick). They kept beating him until he stopped resisting. Maybe it was a false arrest, but fighting cops is not how you challenge a false arrest. Not sure what you guys expect…

It was totally wrong for this guy to resist arrest but repeatedly punching him while he was sitting down was not the correct procedure. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and the cops should have been above that kind of behavior. What we need are level-headed, well-trained cops who do the minimum amount of restraining necessary to make the arrest, not these fired-up hotheads who take out their frustration on the suspect’s head.

The cop could have grappled, cornered or tasered the guy, or even drawn a firearm. Instead, he chose to slug the guy in the head again and again, because it feels good.

Yeah the guy was resisting, but it seemed like “Righty” there was throwing a lot of punches that were extraneous to the task of getting the guy in cuffs.

SkepDoc 7 months agoIt’s very upsetting to see someone beaten like that, though it does appear he was resisting. The cops should understand that homeless people often suffer from mental illness. We can’t hear what words were exchanged, but one would hope that they’d try very hard to reason with the guy. Ultimately I don’t think there’s an excuse for the officers to strike him like that. They should have just called for backup right away so they could subdue him without striking him, since they ended up with half the fucking precinct in there anyway.

Fiji Wiji 7 months agoThey were trying to escort him outside and he was resisting. They were just doing their job. He should have just went with them to provide proof but he refused. Now a simple loitering charge turned into a felony charge of assaulting on a police officer and four misdemeanor charges and four violations, including trespassing, resisting arrest and harassment. And for what, so he could stay inside? Nice job.

If that is resisting then every drunk on street they pick up would be in jail… Two against one, the guy doesn’t look very strong, doesn’t act violently towards cops…. Cops do have the mentality that once they made a call, they won’t back down even if they know it’s wrong decision. The fear of losing authority is sometimes so strong amongst them that i borders mental illness.
