“It was never, throughout the entire campaign, raised as an issue,” said Laurent Binet, a French writer working on a book about new president François Hollande, in an interview with the New Yorker. “Hollande and Valérie Trierweiler have officially been a couple for five years. Seen from this angle, marriage would be only an administrative formality.”
