I think the “back-alley” abortion thing is used as a boogie man. There has been a lot of birth control advances since. Wasn't abortion supposed to get rarer? It hasn't though. Really what is the excuse today for getting pregnant when you don't want to? How many different kinds of birth control are needed? There is even a day after pill.  The rationale for abortion gets weaker as time goes by. Also fetuses are more viable at younger ages than they were when Roe vs Wade was decided. Hopefully that polymer injection for men being tested in India will become available. I think abortion supporters need to attenuate their stance to the 21st century. By keeping this hardline stance they will eventually lose enough support from the middle. Especially when you see what people in China and India do. Aborting girl fetuses because they are a supposed burden. Is that good for a society? The pro-life argument gets stronger and stronger.

My wife and I are going to continue having over-the-border abortions until Taco Bell is closed. (It's, um, sort of a Mexican standoff.)
