MARSHALL FOX a year agoAs someone else remarked in these responses: “It feels like it’s written in code.” —which, of course, it is. Sort of. R.D. is trying to tell kids that “clearing things up”` only serves to make them generic (—that is, if the woman shaves off her beard…she’s just another beardless woman); and that one should develop a taste for the bizarre (—as all those metaphorical mice are rather delectable, under the right circumstances). Dahl’s a doll for helping to instill a deeper, wilder imagination in kids.
