My heart breaks for this kid- when did having a different opinion or idea give anyone the right to cut down and torment others? The amount of hurt and loneliness one feels to get to that point is heart breaking. We do this as grown ups too, we're just more 'sophisticated' and nuanced about it. Life is so precious- people just need to love each other, and that love for others starts at home. If you blatantly hate around your children, they will learn to hate as well- the same could be said for love.

This is never going to get better until we all do something to make sure it does.

The people sitting there cracking jokes and calling this kid a hypocrite: you're sick. A kid is dead just because he was different. People treated him like shit because he didn't fit into their mold. I don't condone suicide. I don't think people should even consider suicide, but not everyone is like that. Teens have raging hormones (yes they effect more than sex drives), raging emotions, and massive confusion. Add that to being confused about your sexuality, or figuring it out and being ridiculed for it. Yes there are some things that people should grow a tougher skin for (like regretsy or disagreeing with beliefs, taste in entertainment and such) but I don't think the kid need to “grow some balls”.  Victim blaming is still victim blaming. The fact is that a kid is dead because of the way kids are raised in our ass backwards culture.

My heart breaks for Jamey. I feel awful that he had to go thru all of this. :'(

parents: this is why something as simple as asking your kids, everyday from the first day of school, HOW WAS SCHOOL TODAY is so important. be open with your kids and KIDS, be open with your parents. it's sad how many problem in a young person's life can be prevented by parents and children being open with each other and by instilling the right values in your children (acceptance, for example)

Shame on the parents in this country who don't know their child is bullying another classmate. I'm not gay, but I was bullied from grade school to HS graduation by the same kids EVERY year. I was hospitalized for a month when I couldn't take it anymore at 16. It infuriates me to see this happening to kids & I'm not even a parent. PARENTS OF AMERICA: Ask yourselves if you know your kids as well as you think you do. Just because you don't see a problem does not mean your kid is perfect. Just because you have a kid maintaining a 4.0 GPA, who plays sports or is in a club does not mean you shouldn't be concerned with how they treat others. TEACHERS: If you know a kid is bullying another student, pick up the damn phone and tell their parents what you've witnessed or heard. They might be clueless of their behavior at school.

People told him he was going to hell for being gay FFS!?? As long as the media, politicians and preachers keep babbling this nonsense then the idiots who bullied this kid will have their minds continually filled with anti-gay drivel. The blame for this kids death goes much further up the food chain than just the school and the bullies and is why I hate the oppressive evil of religion so much. He seemed such a sweet kid - it makes me so angry!

I was bullied, my mom took me out of the school and then it got better. I'm not blaming the parents but…

It's sad to see that there is STILL something seriously wrong with our society. Ultimately children get the idea that it's ok to pick on people because they are different from their parents. Even if parents aren't intentionally passing it on, it happens. And those kids go on to teach other kids the same behavior… Hopefully our generation can change that cycle so that stuff like this doesn't have to happen.  It REALLY DOES get better. It's sad that he will never know that now. :(

I think it's probably a series of events, not just the bullies that are to blame. Depression is not helped by hazing, and being a teenager is hard. It's sad that he could not hang on longer to see that you can feel better.
Sincere condolences to the familly and friends. I hope the bullies do feel guilty for telling him to kill himself tough. That's some inconsiderate asshole thing to say to anyone.

I don't blame the bullies or the poor kid but if you were on some point when you can't take it anymore, you should tell everything to someone. In his case the better is counseling hotline. Maybe if only he could be patient a little longer he wouldn't be end up like that. Start changing, people… This world seems so crazy nowadays and i can't figure out what happen in future..

I think he should've been taken out of that school. There's comes a point where it just won't get better and there are so many schools guilty of this! Rest in peace.

I hope this makes ''bullies'' realize the effects their acts have on others… I believe everything starts at home though, including the ability to be conscious of ones right or wrong actions…

As a woman who was constantly bullied throughout high school all I can say is: it DOES get better. That poor kid should have waited for a few years… Rest in peace.

This is so terrible and heartbreaking, it make's me so disgusted at the people in this world…
