The 25 Most Epic Moments In Star Wars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... George Lucas brought us one of the most celebrated and culturally significant movie franchises of all time: STAR WARS. With six movies, multiple television shows, and hundreds of books, the Star Wars franchise has some of the most memorable scenes in film history and here are the top 25. May The Force be with You!

    25. The Wampa Cave

From Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Luke spent a lot of time in A New Hope whining about power converters and the death of an old guy he had just met like six hours earlier (although I would mourn Obi-Wan's death too even if I had just met him, so we'll let it slide). But this scene is the first time that we get to see young Skywalker save himself without any plans or guidance. It's just him and The Force. So screw you Wampa!

    24. The Asteroid Field

From Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

This is one hell of a rocky ride! The asteroid field that Han Solo skillfully maneuvers like a badass is an intensely suspenseful scene riddled with good ol fashioned action and some great acting from Harrison Ford.

(See Attack of the Clones for another epic asteroid chase that almost made it on the list... but didn't)

    23. Obi-Wan Explains The Force

From Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

I don't know about you, but when I was a little boy this scene fascinated me. I really feel like it's the first time in the film when the storyline delves into more fantasy territory rather than sci-fi ground. It's a short, mystical explanation, but these few sentences sparked an interest in fans everywhere that has carried on for decades. Plus, Obi-Wan is just a total badass, even when he's not doing anything but talking.

    22. The Sarlacc Pit

From Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

There are a lot of creepy monsters in Star Wars (shout out to the Rancor and Garbage Creature!), but there is none more disturbing than the Sarlacc that resides in the Pit of Carkoon. This is really fun scene and one of the first times we get to see Luke Skywalker utilize his newly cultivated Jedi powers. And helllllo Leia! Can't you just wear that gold bikini for the rest of the film? I doubt the Ewoks would mind...

    21. Introduction of Yoda

From Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Yoda is so celebrated and loved that sometimes it's almost bizarre to think that he wasn't introduced to audiences until The Empire Strikes Back. He's lost a little of his luster from his earlier days and he's kinda cracked (in a hilarious, crazy old man way), but this introduction of the wise, backwards-talking green alien is a warm welcome. He's immediately loveable right from the beginning. It's also fun to see Frank Oz's incredible puppet skills take a place in the Star Wars universe.

    20. Podracing

From Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

I love all of the Star Wars movies, but I do have to admit that The Phantom Menace is a bit dry in the first half... then this nail-biter shows up. We all know who wins, but Lucas really draws out the tension and makes a pretty suspenseful action piece. The special effects are pretty dazzling in this scene as well, and it's really the first time we get to experience Anakin's Jedi reflexes and Force abilities.

    19. Midnight Chase Through Coruscant

From Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Coruscant is a brilliant planet. It's almost entirely city, it has thousands of interesting characters and creatures, and it boasts a bustling nightlife that makes New York look like Wyoming. After nearly two hours of straight political monotony in Episode I, it's nice to see this epic space chase in the first half hour of Episode II. It's a truly riveting scene with some fun dialogue, great graphics, and loads of action.

    18. Yoda vs. Palpatine

From Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Oh damn. The two titans of the force clash in this unforgettable lightsaber duel that will leave you breathless. The cinematography in this scene is brilliant, especially when they rise into the Galactic Senate via Palpatine's Chancellor desk.

    17. Raising the X-Wing

From Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Yoda's pearls of wisdom are always so full of rich, applicable knowledge. In this scene from Empire, we really get to see how The Force interacts with physical objects for the first time. To see the little green dude lift that X-Wing out of the muck is pretty impressive. The first time I saw the movie I think my face resembled Luke's.

    16. The Revelation of Darth Sidious/The Birth of Darth Vader

From Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

No Anakin! Don't do it! One of the most highly anticipated scenes of the whole saga, this is when we finally get to experience Palpatine's reveal as Darth Sidious and Anakin's final turn to the Dark Side. It's an emotionally charged, high octane event that unfortunately throws Mace Windu out the window. Literally.

    15. Execute Order 66

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Arguably the most depressing scene in the entire saga, the Execution of Order 66 is the result of Palpatine's desire to murder all of the Jedi across the galaxy. When their clones turn on them, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura, Plo Koon, and Stass Allie don't stand a chance. Of course, Obi-Wan and Yoda are badass enough to dodge their scheduled terminations. But I still have to hold back my manly tears every time Yoda drops his wee cane and clutches his heart!

    14. Begun, The Clone War Has

From Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Well, I couldn't find a YouTube video of JUST Yoda fighting Count Dooku, so we will have to live with this. The entire finale of Attack of the Clones is pretty epic... with all sorts of missiles being launched, and rockets blowing up, and Padme falling out of her ship like a retard... oh, and Anakin trying to take on Dooku like a retard... well, there are a few retard moments, but that's all redeemed once Yoda battles Count Dooku. This was the first time audiences got to witness Yoda in battle and let me tell you, the little green Jedi doesn't disappoint.

    13. Battle Over Coruscant

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

What an intro! Revenge of the Sith has one of the absolute best openings of any of the films with the massive Republic ship slowing floating through space as a single drum pounds away in the distance... when suddenly, two small Jedi starfighters appear and take us down to a full-fledged war in the sky with plenty of twirls, swirls, and explosions. It's a riveting ride and the epitome of why Star Wars is called Star Wars.

    12. It's A Trap!

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Admiral Ackbar's surprised revelation that the Death Star II's shields are still up is one of the most recognizable lines in the entire Star Wars saga, and probably the funniest. It's a completely unintentional and very genuinely shocking assessment from the Admiral, but I just can't help but laugh when he so boldly proclaims "IT'S A TRAP!"

    11. Any Scene with Darth Vader Being a Badass

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episodes III, IV, V, and VI

Any scene with Darth Vader being a badass is epic, which is pretty much every scene that he is in. The ultimate intimating villain, Vader radiates evil with his flowing cape, mysterious helmet, and force choking abilities. Here are some of his best moments.

    10. Duel of the Fates

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

The absolute best scene from The Phantom Menace, Duel of the Fates is a beautifully choreographed and wonderfully executed lightsaber duel that will leave you on the edge of your seat in anticipation! (Plus this video is in real 1080 HD!)

    9. Any Scene with Han Solo

From Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI

The Star Wars saga would not be complete without the conceited, rude, arrogant, dangerous, risky, swashbuckling, dashing, irresistible, fabulous Han Solo. Sure, Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker is the "main character", but we all know Han Solo is the best. So get over it.

    8. Binary Sunset

From Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

This scene in which a young, confused young Luke looks at the binary sunset is one of the most emotional and introspective moments in the entire saga. And holy crap, that incredible music from John Williams! Intense.

    7. Battle of Hoth

From Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

This scene is just perfect. From the slow, eerie buildup of the AT-AT's coming out of the frost, to the totally innovative way Luke flies around the walker's legs, this battle is one of the best from the entire Saga. Plus, the special effects are so incredible I sometimes have to convince myself that I'm watching a film from 1980. 1980!!! The same decade that Madonna and Michael Jackson ruled the charts with their silly dance tracks and the year your mom got her first pair of neon sweat pants.

    6. The Arena

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

This is probably my personal favorite Star Wars scene ever because I was just a wee 8 years old when it hit the big screen. I was so in awe of the hideous arena beasts, the hundreds of Jedi dashing towards the droid army, and the way Yoda saves the day when all hope seems to be lost. It's a visually stunning and incredibly intense part of the saga. Plus it's pretty much the only time you ever get to see Padme do anything.

    5. Blowing Up the Death Star!

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

A one in a million shot that spelled out temporary freedom for the Rebellion, the destruction of the Death Star is the first time audiences really got to experience the true nature of The Force and all that it can do. And you gotta love how Han returns and saves Luke's ass at the perfect time. YEHOO!

    4. Vader's Redemption

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

The moment that brings the entire saga full circle, this scene is the part when Anakin finally restores balance to The Force. It's an electrifying spectacle that makes for quite the finale.

    3. A New Hope

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Probably the single most epic opening scene of all time, this brilliant piece of space battle epicness set the stage for the entire saga. It was a moment when thousands of people all came together at the same time to celebrate something new, something fresh, something that would change the world.

    2. Battle of the Heroes

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

From Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Riveting, sad, intense, electrifying, depressing. All of these adjectives perfectly describe the epic finale of Revenge of the Sith. The single most incredible lightsaber duel in the entire saga, Anakin vs. Obi-Wan is a brilliant piece of movie history... a masterpiece of action!

    1. No, I Am Your Father

Five words that shook the earth to its core and blew Star Wars fans across the globe out of their seats, this is an immortal piece of dialogue that is destined to never age, never be forgotten, never be lost. It is an absolutely revolutionary, shocking, horrifying, cliffhanger of a line that has ultimately become the greatest scene in Star Wars history. Feel the Dark Side of the Force!
