    In 1983, social research group NatCen started asking Brits about their social attitudes. This week they released the 30th set of annual survey results. So how do attitudes compare across the decades?

    The survey shows that British attitudes towards various social issues have become more liberal.

    Meanwhile, trust in various British institutions has fallen drastically over the past 30 years. Confidence in banks has collapsed.

    And the newspaper industry has suffered a similar fate.

    Yet British opinion isn't always fixed - trust in the monarchy has recently rebounded after a difficult decade following the death of Diana.

    And the monarchy, at least, seems safe for the foreseeable future.
