When it comes to American cities, the same ol' usual suspects — New York, L.A., San Francisco — always seem to steal the spotlight.

And cities like Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Boston get (more than) their fair share of praise too.

But the truth is there are a lot of incredibly awesome, somewhat smaller cities that deserve more hype.

On the West Coast, there's the hip city of Oakland, which some people refer to as the Brooklyn of the Bay.

In the Northeast, Pittsburgh beckons you with an array of cultural, outdoor, and sports offerings.

And in the Southwest, the college town of Flagstaff, Arizona, is a gorgeous outdoor-lover's paradise.

Basically, if there's a hidden gem out there, we want to know about it.
