The Top Ten Redheaded Men

The British Heart Foundation have come up with a list of the top ten male redheads. But are they right?

10. Tim Minchin

Just sneaking into the list at number 10 is a comedian/musician/actor who's also known for his bold look. Tim is a pretty outspoken guy, and doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to, well, anything. You've got to love that in a man.

9. Ed Sheeran

Unsure about Ed's inclusion in the top ten? Let me clear this up for you...

1) He has a guitar. We love a man with a guitar.

2) He has some serious tattoos. We love a man with tattoos.

3) He is loved by cats - and according to the ancient laws of the Internet, that means we must all adore him.

8. Simon Pegg

Even without reference to the body-popping skillz (yes, with a 'z') of his youth, Pegg is pretty cool. Co-creator and star of some of the best British cult and commercial classics, from Asylum and Spaced to Big Nothing and Hot Fuzz, this guy gets the number 8 slot.

Fun fact: According to Simon, his hair isn't naturally ginger. He dyed it for Shaun of the Dead and ever since then, people have just assumed that he's one of the redheaded army.

7. Rupert Grint

An inevitable entry into the Ginger Hall of Fame - and a proud one at that! Rupert once stood up for the gingerhood in an interview, proclaiming:

"I've always been quite a proud ginger, so I couldn't dye it and betray the other gingers."

Right on, Ron.

6. Greg Rutherford

The first sportsman on the list, Greg shot to fame in the 2012 Olympics when he nonchalantly took the long jump gold. That slow clap inspired a nation, giving us a renewed love for athletics and a soft spot for this sporty ginger whirlwind.

Bonus points for Greg following his recent show of cakey prowess on the Sport Relief Bake-Off. Particularly as he had to make gingerbread. LOLZ.

5. Eddie Redmayne

Star of Les Mis (where he proved he could carry a pretty decent tune), Birdsong (where he sported the most enticing of outfits: an army uniform) and my dreams (let's not go into that), there's just a tinge of the ginge in Eddie - but he wears it well.

Redmayne by name, red mane by nature...?

4. Benedict Cumberbatch

Number four on the list AND owner of the greatest name in the world? Benedict should be pretty happy.

However, in his own words...

“I’m not ginger… I’m auburn and there is a difference. I’ve got very good friends and relatives who are ginger and trust me, there’s a difference."

Well, that's awkward.

3. Damian Lewis

Broody, charismatic - and DEFINITELY ginger. But Damian isn't entirely sure his fiery barnet is doing him any favours, as he told a journalist in 2013:

"I’d really like to do a film where at the end I kiss the girl and look into the sunset together... But it just doesn’t happen for some reason. Maybe my hair’s too red. Maybe no one thinks a redhead could ever get the girl."

Hollywood, you crazy.

2. Michael Fassbender

There's no denying his gingerness, although it's rare that Michael gets to rock his natural colour in films. Bit of a shame, but maybe there's more to come if Fassy gets his way?

“Yeah, I’m definitely happy to fly the flag for gingers...I’ll take that.”

So will we, Michael.

1. Prince Harry

They called him the 'loveable rogue' and it seems Harry's cheeky gingeryness and naughty antics have got him into Britons' hearts and the top slot.

With his devil-may-care approach to royaldom, Harry's a pretty good example of a redhead making good. Or at least, a redhead thoroughly enjoying himself...
