a) iPad is amazing for many things, meetings, business trips, traveling, going to Europe, etc.
b) I happen to be an American living in Japan who goes home to the U.S. for 1-2 months at a time. So iPad is an internationally compatible no-contract Internet device. Anyone who goes to another country will have the same benefit. (Note, the AT&T version is more internationally compatible than the Verizon version.)
c) iPad is great when I take the train into Tokyo. Suddenly instead of doing only a tiny subset of work I can do on my laptop, I can do tons of work, answer customer emails, do support tickets. It’s quite nice.
d) I can do Internet while eating ramen, which is kind of rude but what the hell, if can do it, go for it.
e) I *rarely* use my iPhone 4 when I have my iPad, it’s way harder to type on. Doing 10 emails is very easy on the iPad but would be hell on a smaller phone.
