Things You Will Only Understand If You Grew Up In Cornwall

If you grew up in the Wild West (AKA Cornwall) then you will understand these things like nobody else.

1. You know what "Dreckly" means...

The word "Dreckly" may well be the first word you said as a baby and your friends from University can't understand a word that your Dad says because of his accent.

2. Pasty crimping is an innate skill...

Nobody taught you how to crimp a pasty but you know how to do it anyway.

3. Getting buried on the beach was a regular childhood past-time

Being covered in sand on the beach so that just your head and your feet showed was a twice-weekly summer event. Your photo albums reflect this with sand breasts for affect. (Obviously you were not stupid enough to dig a hole near the sea that meant you got stuck and had be rescued by the life-guards digging you out while everyone watched – you leave that for the tourists).

4. You know the exact location of Porth-Emmet Beach

5. You have the ability to identify a tourist from 10ft away by...

6. You write "Cornish" on application forms

You always look for the tick box on application forms where you can put yourself as Cornish. You get offended if there is not one.

7. Pub Gardens

When you were little, pub gardens usually had a ship-wrecked boat in them and you made friends with the kids that were playing in it on summer evenings. If you were lucky, you got to be in charge.

8. There was only ONE scary ride to go on when you were a kid...

At Flambards Theme Park the scariest thing to happen to you each year on your annual family trip involved a change of pants and a hair-raising slide down the Demon Drop.

9. Friendships would come and go with the tide...

As a kid you made friends with complete randoms on the beach and their accents sounded like they came from another planet (eye up chuck!). You never saw them again after that one day in 1992.

10. You worship the Kernow King
