5 Amazing Facts About Sharks

1. Female sharks can be pregnant for up to two years

And you thought nine months was bad?! Female sharks can have little baby sharks – more scientifically known as pups – inside them for up to two years. The spiny dogfish shark has one of the longest gestation periods.

2. Sharks cannot eat puffer fish

Why? Because the puffer fish will inflate like a balloon inside the shark’s mouth and injure them. Quite useful to know if you’re being attacked by a shark (well, if you have some puffers on hand that is!).

3. When attacking their prey, Great White sharks’ eyes roll into the back of their heads

Not helping their scary perception, the eyes of the Great White Shark roll into the back of their heads when they attack to help prevent damage to their eyes. Safety first!

4. Great White sharks can survive for 3 months off of one big meal

That could be a seal, another shark or a human leg…

5. Blue sharks are known for eating so much that they vomit, then continue eating.
