10 Reasons Why Valentines Is Corny!

Only a few days more and romance is in the air… again. I can feel Cupid sharpening his arrows that will strike down his targets.

The streets will be flooded with roses and chocolates once again. Whether you're in a relationship or single, Valentine's Day is becoming kinda stale and… corny.

    Same Gifts… Again… and Again…

Chocolates and flowers are the two staples of VD. And well, maybe sexy lingerie. Still, it's the same routine every year. Unlike the holidays where people get creative in their gift giving, you can expect the same gifts every Valentine's. I don't know why people still get jittery when they know all they'd get is a box of chocolates and a bunch of flowers (that will wilt in a few days).

    Anticipation Turns Into Disappointment

Let's say you want this year to be different. You say to your partner to get creative and surprise you. You then eagerly wait for it. You anxiously anticipate while different romantic scenarios play in your head. And when the big moment comes, chances are it'll fall short compared to those Hollywood-ized scenes you imagined and leave you disappointed. Lower your expectations, girl.

    Embarrassing Situations

Surprises should hit you when you least expect it, right? Like when you're out with your friends? Or in the middle of the day in your office with your bosses? No? How about in front of your whole family? Not a good time, too? Well, when do you want to be surprised without being embarrassed?!

    Everything Feels Forced

It feels like people are programmed to be romantic once a year during VD. Everything feels phony and unnatural. Isn't it more romantic and fun when things are done spontaneously? Shouldn't love be shared and felt every single moment?

Share the Love, Not the Statuses

OMG! Romantic posts and statuses all over! Scrolling down corny tweets and hashtags! Cheesy couple pictures and selfies dominate your newsfeed! Nooooooo…..

    Seeing Red

Yes, we all associate the color red with love. Red roses symbolize love. In anticipation of Valentine's Day however, we are overloaded so much with this color. The commercials in the telly, the billboards, and even the trains we ride to work are all screaming with red I feel like a bull ramming everything red I see.

    Capitalist Wet Dream

Everything is sold at a premium during VD. I imagine the scene above is what an online florist all over the world does during Valentine's. Chocolates, wine, jewelry, you name it, has a price tag enough to cost your kidney(s).

    Everything's Fully Booked

Good luck finding a romantic spot or hideaway in this night of nights when everybody gets freaky…

    PDA Overload

Some people find public displays of affection tacky or classless. If you're a voyeuristic creep who get off to two people who can't keep their hands to their own, Valentine's Day is your Christmas.

    Logic Loss

Whenever emotions take over logical reasoning, we become stupid. Cheesy chemical reactions take control over the wirings in our head. Then our blood… wait, who left this rose and chocolate box on my desk? Why are there… butterflies in my stomach? OMG, am I blushing? I look like a freakin' lobster! Why am I smiling uncontrollably? What is happening to meeee?!
