7 Reasons Why You Should Tip Your Delivery Driver

There are a lot of people ordering food to be delivered to them and sometimes they don't tip their driver. Here are 7 reasons why you should. *Note: I refer to the delivery drivers as male because about 98% of delivery drivers ARE male. I am in no way discounting female delivery drivers so you don’t need to comment on that.

    1.

    1. Because they are bringing the restaurant to you: You don't want to go out. You decide to eat in. You order food, let's say pizza. If you went into the restaurant, you'd tip your waitress. Wouldn't you? You get to stay in your nice cool/cozy home and wait for the driver to show up. You don't have to do anything except sit on your couch, watch tv and wait, Convenient, huh? Say thank you to your driver with a tip. He's a waitress behind the wheel.

    2. The weather sucks: It's hot out. It's cold out. It's raining. It's snowing. But you don't have to be out in any of it. Your delivery driver is braving rain, snow, heat, and bad drivers to bring your food to you. Tip him.

    3. Your food being late isn't your driver's fault: The more deliveries a driver makes, the more money he makes. It does not help him to take his time getting your food to you. He's doing it as fast as he can. Remember there's traffic, maybe the cooks made a mistake with your order and it had to be remade, sometimes the order taker puts down the wrong address, maybe they're just really busy. Very rarely is it the driver's fault your food is late. So tip him.

    4. The restaurant tries to make the deliveries efficient. By this I mean that they try to group deliveries together that are in the same area. So, if you live on the west side of town and all of the deliveries are on the east side of town, the dispatcher will have to wait until something comes somewhat close to you to send your food out. This may delay your order. Not the driver's fault. Tip him.

    5. You make the driver wait a long time: You order food at work. When the driver shows up, it takes you 5-10 minutes to get to him to get your food. Again, the more deliveries he makes, the more money he makes. If he has to wait a long time for you, he's losing money. Not only that, but you're making someone else's order late. Not cool. Tip

    6. You want to punish the driver: Your order is wrong. Again, not the driver's fault. He didn't take the order, make the order, or package your order up. He is delivering your order. And he did that. Call the restaurant and complain, but tip your driver.

    7. Your driver has to maintain his car with oil, gas, tires, and other maintenance upkeep. Gas is expensive and he is wearing out his car so that you don't have to get in yours and drive to get your food. He is providing a service and convenience to you. He deserves a tip.
