DIY iPod Touch/iPhone Tripod

If you already tried to record a video with an iPod or iPhone, but the result was all shaky, this could be a good solution. It's easy and very useful. Just remember to choose quiet places to record, or try using a directional microphone.

You'll need....

A tripod

It can be a table tripod or a bigger one. It's important that it has this screw, usually it's where you can attach a camera.

A butterfly screw

It has to fit the screw in your tripod, so make sure to take the tripod with you when you buy it, so you can try and see if it fits.

Self adhesive velcro strips

You'll need only a piece, but make sure it is wide enough to cover the 'L' shaped metal bracket (see below)

The base need to have a hole, that's where the screw from the tripod will be.

On one site of the lenghty part of the metal bracket, you can glue one side of the self adhesive velcro. For the sake of esthetics, you can do some art on the metal side of the bracket - I glued a colorful piece of paper from a magazine, but you can also use adhesive contact paper.

Be sure to align the hole on the base with the screw from the tripod.

Put it all together with the butterfly screw

Fasten the metal bracket using the buttlerfly screw

The other side of the velcro goes on an iPod/iPhone cover

Use an old or cheap cover. Just glue the other side of the velcro on the back of the cover.

Assembling the DIY Tripod!

Now you just need to stick the velcro from the over on the velcro of your tripod. You can put the iPod horizontally....

or vertically!

You can use it both ways.

To record, just open the camera app of your choice and put the tripod over a plain surface

This way it won't get shaky. If you want, you can change tripods - just unscrew the butterfly and use it on other tripod of your choice.

And.... action! :)

Here I'm using it to record an interview. Just remember to look for a quiet place to record, or to go after a directional microphone, so the sound can stay audible.
