I know they're using destroyers in the movie. I just think it's dumb to call something “Battleship” and then not have any battleships.
I'd be more willing to suspend disbelief if they were on battleships or it were set in a different time period. But they're using Navy ships that are currently in commission, the current Navy uniforms and it looks like it's set in present day, dude.
What upsets me most about this movie is that the US Navy doesn't even have any more battleships in commission. In fact, no navies on Earth have any in commission. Perhaps one magically rises from the deeps and destroys the aliens?!
