15 Examples Of How Cereal Boxes Have Changed Over Time
It’s pretty crazy to see how graphic design shifts ever so slightly throughout the years. From typography to the actual iconic images on our favorite cereals, there seems to be a pattern in advertising where they get bigger and bolder over time. All I know is cereal mascots will forever be engrained in my sugary sweet memory.

lupinelle a year agoFor everyone complaining about the lack of prizes in the box, when I was working at Kellogg’s in the early 00s and asked about that, what I was told was that formerly, because of the different shapes and sizes premiums took, it was necessary to place them in the boxes by hand. And eventually, production became so automated and fast that to place them in the boxes was no longer practicable. To slow down the line to the point and employ the number of people that it would make it possible would add too much to the manufacturing costs and would raise the price of the cereal beyond what it was thought consumers would be willing to pay. I was able to get a tour of the Battle Creek production facility, and seriously, at this point there’s only a handful of people tending the whole enormous plant.

Krissy Diggs a year agoIn my character design class we did a whole thing on the cereal mascots and how they had turned awful over time. It’s the same with other mascots too. The 90’s came along and tried to make everything RADICAL and then destroyed nicely designed characters once and for all. We’re all hoping for a resurgence of some of that awesome style. This is my final for the project… Sugar Bear, who is above all super lame… and MY Sugar B. Who is an adorable, cereal jugglin’ scamp~! :)

Terrahawk76 a year agoI wonder when Lucky stopped being a supporter of the tribe. Used to have a Star of David, now they just shoot them.
