This Comedian Decided To See If It Was Possible To Join The 1% In Just One Week

It gets very weird, very quickly.

BuzzFeed invited comedian Barry Rothbart to make a video exploring income disparity in America. Instead, he decided to try to join the 1 percent in one week.

Meet Barry Rothbart, an actor/comedian and very chill money lover.

Barry discovered that it takes almost $450,000 a year to become part of the 1 percent in the state of California.

He decided the first step in achieving his goal would be to meet with a financial adviser...

...who didn't think much of his plan.

Left to his own devices, Barry found a deal he couldn't pass up — a Craigslist post offering 200 pairs of designer sunglasses for $250!

So he picked up the goods from a quaint little shop.

After a failed attempt at selling the shades wholesale to retailers, he tried to hawk them to unwitting BuzzFeed employees.

Obviously, the next step was to go to a sperm bank.

It didn't work out so well.

    Finally, Barry had an epiphany.

Using materials he found at BuzzFeed, along with his inventory of sunglasses, he created a piece of art called "Throwing Shade" and tried to sell it for $9,000.

Eventually, Barry was satisfied to find out that by merely being an American with a fraction of that $400,000-plus income, he is in the 1 percent WORLDWIDE.

Here's that crazy statistic. You might just be richer than you think.
