10 Reasons Why BuzzFeed Should Hire Me

Cover letters are a thing of the past. Therefore, I'd like to announce that this is my personal application to work at BuzzFeed. God help me.

10. I make a mean Christmas dinner

Like seriously mean. I ended up eating cold potatoes for days. Who else can offer you tasty roast turkey every day? Because Christmas should be every day.

9. I have an English degree

I received a 2.1 (Hons) in BA English whilst studying at the University of Leicester. That’s right we found Richard III. Who else can say that!? Well, asides from any other UoL graduates, but let’s not talk about them.

8. I already work in the industry

I currently work as the assistant editor to the B2B technical journal – Port technology international. During my time at the company I’ve honed my skills as a writer, writing about sciencey boat things, and whilst I love it, I feel I’d be much better working with you guys. If this was a normal cover letter I would have probably told you that I manage the daily news updates we produce that gets sent to businesses and ports world-wide, or the fact that web traffic has increased exponentially since I began working there.

Prior to that, I had an internship at the Leicester mercury. Whilst I didn’t get to meet Kasabian, I did help co-report a front-page headline article on them, whilst gathering personal opinion throughout the city. Yet again, I did the journalism thing; writing from press releases received by the news desk, performing vox pops and re-hashing letters for the daily news column. I also went to court to do some legal reporting, which was awesome.

7. I also write a blog

I run a blog that acts as a portfolio to host my best work, whilst also acting as a platform to rant about the daily struggles of graduate life (Someone please pay me!). I also review the latest track releases for bands big and small. You can have a look here: www.fromthetigersmouth.wordpress.com

6. I'm in a band

I’ve been playing guitar for the past 12 years, and am lead singer in a three-piece alt-indie band. I could say to you that by showcasing this, it shows that I exert just as much passion in my personal life as I do in my professional one, and that I’ve gained further experience using social media as a promotional tool, studying current trends and habits as an attempt to increase outreach as far as possible, but then it would take away from the fact that I’m just shamelessly plugging my band.

5. I do anything it takes to get the story right

Like smoking a good cigar whilst under the murky glow of a lonely lamp light. Yet again, if this were a serious cover letter, I’d probably state the fact that I like to get my facts right and love to get down to the nitty gritty bits in regards to research. I’m not afraid to get down and dirty to make sure my story is perfect.

4. I love fancy dress

Feeling down at work? I’ll build a robotic gentleman suit out of a laundry basket and a crate and go “beep boop”. Why, yes that is right, a friend and I dressed up as Lenny and Carl from the Simpsons, we even got free beer all night.

Now, tell me you know another candidate has done that, tell me!

3. Like really love fancy dress

It’s been a long-standing thing. You could say that it proves I’m a confident, sociable individual who loves working in a team, relishes a challenge and that my love of ridiculous attire proves my passion for creating something unique, but that would be too serious wouldn't it?

2. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to prove I’m perfect for the role (like putting on a suit and shamelessly uploading the photos for this cover letter).

I’d be lying if I said I didn't have an absolute laugh making this, and I hope no matter what, you guys have had good fun reading it. Hell, even if it just makes the rounds in the office as a ‘Hey look at this idiot’ email, I’d be happy.
