5 Reasons Why Sense & Sensibility’s Willoughby Is My Hero*

There's been a lot of chat about Jane Austen lately with the release of Joanna Trollope's version of Sense & Sensibility, so we thought we'd share our five top reasons why we still lust after Willoughby, even if he's not necessarily who Jane would have wanted us to fancy...

    1. Because he charges into the story (and our hearts) on a white steed - which everyone knows is standard mode of transport for heroes. (See also Sleeping Beauty and Tangled)

    2. Because he looks damn fine rescuing damsels in distress.

    3. He can wear a wet shirt just as well (if not better) than Mr Darcy.

    4. Because he is the epitome of the word dashing, even in this straw hat. (Which I presume he borrowed from some farmer so as not to ruin his flawless features with UV rays.)

    5. And, most importantly, the man can smoulder.

    Like seriously smoulder.

So, I’m sorry Colonel ‘Boring’ Brandon but until you get over your sob story, find yourself a straw hat and stare longingly into the distance on your white horse, I’d rather you left me out in the rain.

*Just don’t mention Colonel Brandon’s young ward, Eliza.
