Video Of The Mayor Of New York City Fiorello LaGuardia Reading Comics In 1945

During a newspaper deliveryman strike in 1945, New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia comforted the city’s comics-deprived children by reading the adventures of Dick Tracy and Little Orphan Annie on the radio. In a recording from July 15, 1945, we hear him reading about Little Orphan Annie being on trial for murder.

In 1942, LaGuardia also prohibited pinball machines, a ban that lasted until 1976 – just think about that.
