North Carolina's Governor Pat McCrory is known to be a bit thin-skinned. But some of the people and things he decides to take issue with are a little, um, beneath the dignity of the office of governor?

12. Pat McCrory vs. Pungent Odors

Just a month after signing a budget that dropped NC to the bottom on per pupil spending on education, Pat McCrory was hard at work trying to track down that "pungent odor" in his office.

The Governor got right to work ordering a $20,000 renovation on his executive bathroom. Sadly, visitors learned Pat's "do you smell that" face was the only interesting thing about visiting the Governor in his office.

11. Pat McCrory vs. Toes

Some people might think that Pat McCrory's fixation on talking about toes, specifically stepping on them, is a little odd.

But come on, toes have had it too easy, for too long. And it's way better than his tough guy fist flaps.

10. Pat McCrory vs. The Press

The Associated Press reported that McCrory got a six-figure payout, more than his state salary, from a mortgage lender while Governor. Oh, and he plum forgot to put it on his disclosure forms.

Pat McCrory couldn't stand by while his good name was besmirched with facts. McCrory's press office issued a 34-page assault on the AP and their reporter.

Pat got his ultimate revenge by... getting testy with the reporter the next time he saw him. Pat McCrory: Mean Girl.

9. Pat McCrory vs. Sen. Phil Berger

McCrory has had a trying relationship with the leadership of his own party in the legislature. Senate Leader Phil Berger pretty much makes Pat do whatever they want.

To make nice though, Berger has this to say about Pat recently, "The governor’s primary concern appears to be a desire to control the coal ash commission and avoid an independent barrier between his administration and former employer."

Wait, that's not nice at all.

8. Pat McCrory vs. A 12-Year-Old Girl

Seriously the Governor of the 10th largest state, in the most powerful country in the world, went back and forth with a middle schooler in various news outlets with all the bravado of a WWE buildup. He only backed down because presumably someone on his staff pointed out maybe he wasn't coming out ahead on this one?

7. Pat McCrory vs. Stupid Hats

We're not sure what "a stupid hat" is, but Pat McCrory sure does. And for a guy that claims not to like them, he sure does talk about them a lot.

Pat's always up for hugging it out. McCrory has the distinction of being the nation's only Governor who's been a part of an awkward man hug with both a member of Obama's Cabinet and the VPOTUS.

5. Pat McCrory vs. Mail Merges

McCrory's Administration "acknowledged that it sent 48,752 children’s Medicaid cards to incorrect addresses. The cards include names, dates of birth and Medicaid numbers, information classified as private under federal rules. In a statement Monday afternoon, DHHS pinned the mistake on 'human error in computer programming and the quality assurance process in printing the new Medicaid identification cards.'"

Finally one that might be legitimate: "The governor had an uninvited weekend visitor at his mountain home. A 140-pound black bear lumbered across the yard... In the background, McCrory could be heard saying, “Be careful – don’t do anything stupid.”

Two years in, and just last week in a freudian slip, Pat McCrory finally admitted what everyone else realized long ago: maybe he should have stayed in Charlotte. McCrory slipped and called Charlotte the state Capital.

C'mon, if you knew a stock you owned was about to tank thanks to some bad press, you'd sell too: "Gov. McCrory owned Duke Energy stock even as he took action (and inaction) after Duke’s coal ash spill into the Dan River. That created a direct conflict of interest, compounded by the fact that McCrory wrongly claimed that he didn’t own Duke stock at the time."

1. Pat McCrory vs. The Truth

People began to realize, maybe Pat isn't the straight shooter he claims to be when he claimed he "goes out in the crowd all the time" during protests, even though no one could find a trace of him.

When confronted point blank about a dozen or so inaccurate statements, McCrory, "agreed he was not entirely accurate." Which is a nice way to avoid admitting he has not clue what words are coming out of his mouth most of the time.

The News & Observer has even pointed out that McCrory, er McFrankly, has a slight verbal tick for when he's about to strain the truth.

But, perhaps most troubling, McCrory's hometown paper, the Charlotte Observer asked "Does the governor have a truth problem?" and just last week have pointed out that it is, "McCrory vs. the truth - once again."

But a beef is a beef, even with the truth. If there's one thing we know about Pat, he doesn't back down, even when he is repeatedly and hilariously wrong.
