4 Reasons Growing Up In The 90s Was The Best

It was a simpler time where you didn’t care about the ingredients list.

1. The lunchbox aesthetic

First day of school rolled around and after months of begging and pleading you finally convince your parents to buy you a new lunch box. But not a sensible lunch box that actually kept your food cool, no that’s for nerds. You convince them to buy you a small, plastic box that would break in less in a month but for that first day you were coolest. Disney was at itss peak than everything else trickled down, it really depended on whether Tiger Beat said it was cool or not. If your lunch matched your box than you were sitting at the top of the 2nd grade hierarchy: Pizza Lunchables, Fruit Rollup, Capri Sun, Gushers, and and Snack Pack. Those were the only brand names that mattered.

2. The fashion

Crimped hair, tye dye, and slap bracelets. If you wore all those things you were Miss Pre-teen 1995. The more tacked bracelets you had, the brighter you sneakers lit up, the flipper your hair was the cooler you were. Even your mom was sporting The Rachel look since Jen was like the hottest babe ever. Though that haircut was a pain to style it was the height of hair fashion. Be looked forward to the day we would grow up and have a rotating closet like Cher from Clueless (we still want that yellow plaid school girl outfit). Also your Prince Charming was the coolest boy ever. He was moody, pensive, listened to punk and wore flannel shirts over a white tee, loose denim jeans, and black boots. Bonus points if he played guitar and wrote a song about how your eyes were an ocean. Swoon.

3. All the cool shows

The 90s blessed us with some of the greatest cartoons and TV shows ever. Disney created carton shows spin offs from our favorite films so we could continue that magic carpet ride. Even educational shows were fun with the Magical School Bus going into space or the human body and if a huge tv was rolled into the class room it was time for Bill Nye the Science Guy. Friends was undoubtly the most popular and it was one of the shows were we didn’t mind the kissing (unless it was Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World. Destined!)

4. The ABCs

Let’s face the reason 90s kids are nostalgic for the 90s is because we were barely learning to walk, talk, and tie our shoelaces (unless you had Velcro bands…oooooh). We miss the days of Saturday morning cartoons, going to the park to play all day, or playing Nintendo 64 for hours on end. No responsibility, no projects due Monday morning (unless they involved Crayola), not having to deal with complicated relationships. The only thing we had to worry about was whether or not Ash would finally get his next badge. For being the very best he really wasn’t. 10 year olds had it so rough.

The reason we want build a time machine and go back to the 90s is so we can play as much as we want, not have to dodge our student loans and not having to pair every meal with a side of kale. So much frakking kale!!!
