Ok. I'm gonna play devil's advocate here:
I listen to metal and grind and everything that is the opposite of R&B, but let's analyze this from a compositional/production standpoint. It is very minimalist, something that I have always loved (eg. the Meters). The delicate patter of the drums is fantastic, and the subtle meter changes flow flawlessly. Comparing this to what is typical of R&B, I think most would agree this is far superior to typical R&B “slow-jamz.” I fucking hate R&B, and I find this song vaguely enjoyable. Translating a rock song to R&B is a very risky move, and you have to ignore pure nostalgic obsession with this song. Forget about Soundgarden for a moment, put on some headphones, and listen again.
Now, in a clear, analytical manner, tell me what is wrong with this song.
