1. Kampen Beach
The red cliffs that line this stretch of sand and surf will take your breath away. This beach comes complete with the “Strandkörben,” the basket-like seats, that make German beaches famous!
2. Wannsee Beach
The Wannsee lake is the biggest lake in Berlin, and it is a popular spot for Berliners to take a dip. If you are traveling in the area, be sure to put a day at Wannsee on your schedule!
3. Warnemünde Beach
Warnemünde is a town with a great seaside resort. It is perfect for a family trip - there is plenty of history in the city, plus the added bonus of sailing and lying on the beach. A must for any trip to northern Germany!
4. Sylt Island
Sylt has tons of beaches to visit, so a quick trip to the island is definitely worth it. From the red cliffs in Kampen to the posh atmosphere at Westerland, the northernmost island in Germany offers an exciting retreat from the day-to-day.
5. Travemünde Beach
Travemünde is part of the city of Lübeck, famous for its boats and literature. For anyone interested in sailing, a pilgrammage to Lübeck is a must!
6. Kühlungsborn Beach
Another beach on the charming baltic coast, Kühlungsborn is known for its quaint looks as well as sunbathing. No building in Kühlungsborn is allowed to be taller than the trees. The result? A seaside city straight out of a fairy tale.
7. Rügen Island
Rügen Island was a favorite tourist destination for many in East Germany during the Cold War. Since reunification, it has become the most visited island in Germanyt. Check out the chalk cliffs in Jasmund National Park; they will take your breath away!
8. Fehmarn Island
You may know Fehmarn Island from the album “Live at the Isle of Fehmarn,” a live recording of Jimi Hendrix’s last concert. Or you may know it because of its well known windsurfing and kitesurfing spots. OR you may know it because you are an avid ornithologist and have gone there to study birds. You’ve heard about it, now go visit!
9. Horn Beach
For those of you visiting for Oktoberfest or the magical castles and forests of the south, Lake Constance is your best bet for a beach day. On the German side, we recommend Horn Beach.
10. Westerland Beach
Westerland is the posh beach, the place where all the celebrities in Germany have beach houses. Stop by for celebrity spotting, stay for the beautiful sand and surf.
