Santa Barbara, California Hit Hard By Winter Storm

It does rain in Southern California. And in Santa Barbara..s**t just got real

Earlier this week, Southern California residents were forewarned about one of the largest storms in almost 4 years hitting the region. We heard about thunderstorm, snow, and even tornado warnings!! Now most residents of the area blew it off...just another news story in a region built on drama...

And of course...residents of recent burn areas near Glendora, California were evacuated. For good reason too..as you can see 4-8 feet of mud caked their streets...

BUT....although there were coastal flood warnings given over a wide area from San Luis Obispo County to the Mexican border...no one thought of looking at Santa Barbara...

Take a look at Goleta Beach & it's pier is on the left near the airport, "Shoreline Dr" is near Leadbetter Beach, Hendry's Beach is to the left of where it says "Cliff Dr", there's the Harbor on the right side, and see that other line coming from the shore to the right of the harbor? That's Stearn's Wharf, the main pier.

So let's just say you are chilling on a Saturday morning having brunch at the Moby Dick restaurant over turbulent but beautiful waves crashing around you since you are on the pier. And then just imagine when this video happens.

LEADBETTER & HENDRY'S BEACH

Then, as a local, you want to go out to the beach and check out the waves. First you hit up Leadbetter..but the waves start coming into the parking lot and the rain starts getting crazy. So you go to the dog beach, locally known as Hendry's beach, only to find there is no beach..only water...

GOLETA BEACH & PIER

I first heard about an evacuation at Goleta Beach, near Santa Barbara Airport and a favorite beach for UC Santa Barbara students. But with big waves...come big crashes...

SANTA BARBARA HARBOR & YACHT CLUB

The Santa Barbara Harbor is spearheaded at the sand by the Yacht Club which has a parking lot next to the buildings. The Harbor gets dregged and several berms line around the property to save it from waves coming into the shopping, eating, and parking areas of the Harbor. Poor poor Prius...
