The other day I asked Ryan why he smoked so many cigarettes. I could tell the question flustered him and I immediately regretted asking. His cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink and he said, " When we're apart, I find it comforting to have something on my lips. It's the next best thing to having you with me, you know? They say tobacco kills you but I think being alone is what does it."

I asked Ryan why he turned down an invitation from Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean to audition for the boy band. Then he asked me to go into the bedroom for a private performance.

I asked Ryan who his oldest friend was the other day. He whistled, bent to his knees and Oscar came running down the hall. How did you find Oscar? I asked. Ryan held him just a bit closer and said, “Years ago, I was taking a walk down in the country and saw smoke from a distance. I followed grey until I found an old farm that had caught on fire in the night. There was no one. No life as far as I could see. Then something deep inside me just tensed up. Something squeezed my heart and shook me. It was then I knew I had to go in. I broke through the glass of the burning antique window and saw him. We haven’t been apart since.”

I came home the other day to Ryan on cloud nine. He was giddy. I put my things down and went into the kitchen where he was preparing to cook. “Hey, How’s it going in here?" He snapped around in his new oxford striped apron and said, "I just watched the finale of Top Chef and my guy won! It’s just awesome because he really deserved it. I figured in celebration of his victory I would try to make his winning meal for us tonight. I want to be your Top Chef tonight, so just sit back and relax.”

Go ahead, dive into the romantic bed of memories. It's only fictional if you say it is.
