If You Grew Up In The 80's- A Robin Williams Tribute.....

Robin Williams career was a lush and diverse example of a true artist. I grew up watching him and these are the films that stand out to me the most. His talent for comedy and drama are unmatched. This is a list for the kids who regard him as our favorite funny uncle. Robin Williams (July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014)

Popeye-1980

This was his first major movie role as none other than Popeye himself. This movie although heavily criticized is a amazingly fun and whimsical musical. If you've ever watched Popeye cartoons then you'll be in heaven. I love the casting and performances. Robin Williams is an absolute joy in this film. It's currently still available to watch on Netflix.

Good Morning Vietnam- 1987

A film that could highlight both sides of Williams massive talent. This movie captures the funny and harsh sides of life that Williams so often could express better than anyone else. This is a very underrated movie. Please watch it if you haven't already.

The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen-1988

What a wonderful supporting role for Williams in his first Terry Gilliam film. The Moon King is one of my favorite parts of this Gilliam masterpiece. Williams must have impressed Gilliam so much as to cast him later in The Fisher King.

Hook- 1991

Spielberg cast the perpetual child as the archetypal boy who never grew up. What a brilliant stroke of genius? Well, it may not have been the greatest re-imagining of the Peter Pan story but it was a heck of a lot of fun to watch all the same. When I watch Hook I am always reminded to never forget my inner child and to never stop playing.

Aladdin- 1992

Despite the many disputes with Disney that Williams had this one luminous performance stands alone as one of the best in any Disney animated film. 'Phenomenal cosmic power!' is right but perhaps Williams was much like the genie, with all his talent, he was still confined to his own depression and demons. His loss is huge and unexpected but we always have the great gifts like this movie forever. Most of the script for Genie in the film was improvised by Williams.....of course.

Mrs. Doubtfire- 1993

Many of the films Williams made around this time were shot in the San Francisco Bay area because Williams lived there (and was such a box office draw at that time that he could shoot wherever he pleased). It's also a highly quotable film among friends. Love, love, love this movie. Also, watch the video on youtube where a trailer is reworked to appear as a horror film, it's hilarious.

Another one that's available on Netflix. This one is like one of your fav roller coaster rides. It's always good and can be watched over and over again.

Death To Smoochy- 2002

This really isn't a kids movie but it's kid related and freakin' hilarious. Williams gets to show all of his crazy and funny once again in this cleverly written film. As "Rainbow Randolph" Smiley, he's Smoochy's worst nightmare.
