Brutal. This was a performance piece in the window of Lush Cosmetics in London, in which artist Jacqueline Traide was subjected to the simulated horrors of animal testing for 10 hours. The stunt was meant to encourage a ban on animal testing and highlight the fact that Lush sells no animal tested cosmetics.

Riff a year agoJust FYI, the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany can now manufacture human skin swatches using cells from readily available skin biopsies, so there’s really no need to even be testing any cosmetic products on animals or humans. And the whole animal testing thing is flawed, because it assumes a substance will react with human biology the same way it does with that of a mouse or a dog.

alfy22 a year agoOk. I hate animals being tortured as much as the next person. However, I do believe that humans are most definitely ranked above animals. Therefore, before we go all out to protect them, should we not protect the millions of children forced to sell their bodies at the ripe age of 7? Or all the orphans in Africa? I am not trying to offend anyone, because I believe that everyone should care for something enough to take action, but people have become so desensitized to some of the human brutalities they seem to lose focus of what to truly care for. Human Compassion+Dignity=Peace.

some of you are saying that if they didn’t test on animals that this is how they would have to test cosmetics. and i totally get your logic in that but you don’t realize that there are natural and safe cosmetics. that’s without all these chemicals and whatnot. so they wouldn’t even need to test it. besides, why would you want makeup that even needs to be tested to make sure it’s safe? go all natural! they’re safer and no animals had to suffer just to enhance your beauty. call me sensitive, but animals have emotions too.

Lush makes terrible products. Yeah yeah, no animal testing, hand made, all that shit. Their products are terrible for you. And this demonstration makes me hate them even more. What an idiot this girl is. Hasn’t she ever heard the expression “Your actions speak so loud I can’t hear a word you’re saying”?
