Restaurant Bans Children
McDain’s Restaurant in Monroeville, Pennsylvania has raised the ire of baby-makers everywhere by banning children under 6 years of age. Owner John Vuick says parents with misbehaving children are “impolite” and “selfish,” and that those children are “not the center of the universe.” An army of angry Facebook mommies will soon bury you with indignant comments, Mr. Vuick. You have been warned.

gonegonegone a year agoDear Breeder Backlash, Here’s the thing: you’re everywhere. You and your kids have access to everything except bars, all the time. And many of us didn’t make the choice you did, don’t think your kids are particularly cute, and basically have no reason to enjoy their company the way you do. We get that you chose to have kids. We didn’t, and that’s not a judgement, it’s our *choice*. Just because we didn’t make the same choice as you doesn’t mean we think you made a bad one. It was never about *you*. It’s about us, our lives, which you frankly have no right to judge. So let us have this one good thing: places we can go and be adults without having to deal with your children. Who I’m sure are lovely. But I don’t want to trip over them. Thanks, LIO

edwardw5 a year agoLuck enough to have two very mellow kids who have never melted down at a restaurant (they even say thank you to our server without being prompted, which is better than a lot of “adults” I’ve eaten with) That being said, I can understand people being annoyed by kids whose parents don’t know how to discipline them. It’s the parents who are the problem. Kids don’t have the social skills to know better. They need to have boundaries imposed by parents. That’s the whole freakin’ point of the job.

katiekatt11 a year agoFuck. Yes. Make this a rule in all restaurants! Your kid doesn’t care whether they eat chicken nuggets/ Mac-n-cheese at a nice restaurant or at home so leave them with a fkn babysitter! Or just in the crib at home is fine. Just don’t bring them out where I can hear them bitching and screaming!

Foozlesprite a year agoHeh, I’m for this. A good restaurant is usually pretty expensive, I don’t want to spend it with a headache or covered in goop that a baby from the next seat over flung at me. They’re menaces.

~DRE~ a year agoToo many people have no idea how to parent their children. I’ve been a server/bartender for many, many years now, and actually had a table ask me to tell their child to settle down and be quiet because he wouldn’t listen to them. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? YOU ASKED YOUR SERVER TO PARENT YOUR CHILD FOR YOU?? This is why restaurants have come to ban children. You can’t ban idiot parents unfortunately…

Glenn V. a year agoCan we ban cell phones and gym clothes too? I have a 4 year old and I eat at Outback all the time because it is family friendly. When I have a sitter I go someplace nice. When some dirtbag comes in to the place in sweats and a wife-beater and then uses a cell phone, I want to strangle them for being less considerate than I try to be.

christinabyrons a year agoAs a new mom with a 7 month old, I have no problem with this at all. I’d rather go to family-friendly and age appropriate (noisy) restaurants or use a babysitter until I’m certain my child will behave in quiet restaurants.

AdventureNeckbeard a year agoPlease let other places pick this up, I hate always going to my favorite restaurant to sit in a booth then have a family be seated shortly behind me with their kids screaming in my ear cause the food isn’t there yet…
