Joyland, The Abandoned Amusement Park
Located in Wichita, Kansas, Joyland is an amusement park that’s been shuttered since 2006. Here are a bunch of creepy/beautiful images documenting nature’s reclamation of the site. This is the stuff that Stephen King novels and awesome roman candle fights are born of.

Kelly Hicks 2 years agoI grew up in Wichita during the early ’70s, when Joyland was going strong. So many fun memories…the Giant Slide, the (new) Whacky Shack, Go-Karts, the Tilt-A-Whirl, the Scrambler, Skee-Ball, and that wonderful miniature train you could ride all the way around the park. Oh, and the best restored merry-go-round and pipe organ ever!
Sure, places like Disney or Islands of Adventure are where it’s at these days, but they’ll never beat the nostalgia of Joyland. P.S. I always had oodles of tickets for my good grades during the “report card” ticket exchange! -

therblig 2 years agoHaunting stuff. We used to go to Olympic Park, right on the Irvington-Maplewood border, until it closed in 1965. The wooden roller coaster structure stayed up for years afterward as the whole area went downhill. Luckily for me, my parents’ marriage was breaking up at the same time, so I have some truly wonderful associations.
