There is nothing 'passive' aggressive about this. To me it sounds like the son manipulated the dying mother, and wrote this himself. Maybe to get their share of any inheritance? It wouldn't be the first time, a disgruntled relative did something like this to put their selves on top of the proverbial pay check.
