A man, dressed as the Muppet character Elmo, is arrested in New York’s Times Square September 18, 2012. The arrest took place after a loud verbal exchange between the man and tourists, witnesses said. The police at the scene did not give a reason for the arrest.

      I know why… These guys will trick you into taking a picture with them then they say ok cough up some bills. If you don’t then they or there other fellow characters give you a hard time. On Hollywood my daughter took a pic w spongebob and all I had was 2 $$ so after I gave it to him he said “you cheap f#*king bastard”. Never again screw those people.

      I can’t stand these guys. I worked for Disney, and the amount of training our characters go through to represent the brand perfectly and give children (and adults!) the best experience possible pays off in a huge way. If these guys want to make their money as characters…GO WORK IN A THEME PARK instead of basically stealing from established brands and ruining their representation for young kids (imagine dead-eyed Mickey yelling gruffly at your six-year-old). Seriously. You don’t need a college degree to do character work, just a love of the job and a willingness to have fun. Also, I’ve heard them talk through their headpieces…HUGE no-no, it completely ruins the illusion. Boo.
