turtlefeed a year ago2 has a hilariously unfortunate caption. :) I spent about 30 minutes staring at those pictures because I wasn’t sure if they were drawings or prints. Except in 4, Victoria followed the printmaking convention of signing as the illustrator on the left. (Engravers and etchers signed on the right.) She even used the Latin terminology that appears on prints! Also, every image appears to have a plate mark (a sign of a metal engraving or etching), though I considered the possibility that these were drawings mounted on archival paper; these aren’t exactly high resolution images, so I couldn’t tell. If they were in fact drawings, even though these were obviously very personal ones, did she intend to send them to an engraver or etcher at some point? Then I clicked through to the article on dailymail.co.uk and saw that these were etchings meant for private circulation. I think the moral of this story is that I waste a lot of time thinking about stupid details. BUT in case anyone else is curious, these are in fact prints and not original drawings.
