6 Things You Shouldn’t Do With Google Glass

Many people have heard of the amazing new technology of Google Glass. As a wearable computer being developed by Google in the Project Glass research and development project, Google Glass displays information in a hands-free format on a small screen on the top right side of a pair of glasses. Users can also communicate with the Internet using voice commands. Google has advertisements with Google Glass wearers doing things like ballet dancing, hiking in Utah and skydiving from planes. However, there are a few things you should not do while wearing this innovative technology.

Drive a Car

Not only is driving a car while using technology unsafe, but it exponentially increases the chances of getting into a car accident. In Utah, like other states, texting while driving is illegal and Google Glass would be equally careless driving.

Glass-out on People

Sometimes it may be an accident, but people zone out all the time because of technology. Even mid-conversation, someone can get a text or tweet that kills the atmosphere. If you find yourself staring off for long periods of time, give yourself a break and get back into the real world.

Be a Glasshole

Not everyone has heard of Google Glass so if others have questions about how it works, don’t be a jerk. In some states like Utah, there are many places where cell phone cameras are banned. They will also apply the same rules for Glass.

Use Without Consent

Some restaurants like the Lost Lake Cafe & Lounge in Seattle, have banned Google Glass from their premises. They are (rightly) concerned that Glass users will take pictures or videos of other customers without their consent. This may even be an accident, but even people in the background of your family dinner have their rights.

Go to a Bar

In February 2014, a tech reporter was apparently attacked at a bar because she was wearing Google Glass. Sarah Slocum posted on her Facebook page that she was “verbally and physically assaulted and robbed … because of some wanker Google Glass haters.”

Make Others Feel Uncomfortable

Wearing it to dinner may seem just as inconsiderate as holding a smartphone in one’s hand during a meal. People of a different socio-economic status might also see Glass as an outward flaunting of one’s financial success.
