You went to Cal Skate for a field trip or a party and you played “Red Light/Green Light” and you thought couple skating was the bomb!

You know that “Original Perry’s” is better than “Mr. Perry’s”

3.

You know that "Original Perry's" is not just a restaurant but a public institution especially after any 12:00 midnight. You went there after every homecoming dance, junior prom, senior ball and night after the club.

You know that Stockton Blvd was “Little Saigon” before it officially became “Little Saigon”. You CAN NOT get Pho anywhere else but on Stockton Blvd especially from downtown.

You knew that Calvine Blvd divided South Sacramento from Elk Grove

You know Franklin Blvd is where you get real Mexican food cause that's where all the Mexican folks are.

You wished there was still a Florin Mall on Florin Rd instead of a “Super Wal-Mart”.

8. Growing up, the only freeways you knew was the 99 and the 5, everything else after that got HELLA confusing

Diversity and multiculturalism doesn’t need to taught to us in schools, we live it everyday and embrace it before it became a cool thing about a city.

(my diverse ass cross country team rep’n hard in Hawaii – can’t possibly get more diverse than that)

As all blogs, this is all just opinion piece and my personal experience of being home-grown to South Sacramento. I would love to hear your responses, comments and feedback. Understanding that, I know there are a lot of negative stereotypes towards my home and community. As a community organizer, I am very much aware of the grave issues that associated with my area but choose not to highlight them in this list because it's a celebration of my city. I'm a firm believer that "that if you continue to call it ghetto, it will continue to be the ghetto". Be part of the change and not the problem.
